January’s Top 10 – Best Web Hosting Services of 2020

Top 10 Web Hosting Providers

At the end of each month, we release our Top 10 services. This month it is the month of Web Hosting, as we count down our top ten web hosting providers. We’ve tried and tested each entry in our top ten list, so we’re ranking our top web hosting providers off what we’ve experienced and know about them.

What is a web hosting service?

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service, that allows individuals and businesses to make their websites accessible through the World Wide Web.

A web host provides you with space on a server, where your website will sit and live for people around the world to access.

In basic terms, a web host is what makes a website work.

Top 10 Best Web Hosting Services

10. WebFaction / GoDaddy

Ok, so maybe we’ve included two web hosts for the number 10 spot – but that’s only because back in 2018 WebFaction announced they was joining forces with GoDaddy, and well… We didn’t want to leave one out.

We’ve entered these at number 10 because although GoDaddy has a strong uptime, despite being one of the largest hosting companys out there, they are still some distance away from being the ‘best’.

We’ve highlghted some of the main pros and cons of using GoDaddy.

The Pros

  • Free Domain Name
  • Includes Online Web Builder
  • Unmetered Bandwith

The Cons

  • Support Can Be Slow
  • No Automatic Backups
  • No Migration Service

9. DreamHost

DreamHost is a great hosting provider that has a wide range of services. From quality shared platform through to managed WordPress hosting and more. We’d have placed DreamHost hire up the rankings if it wasn’t for the lack of ‘free’ options included.

7. NameCheap

NameCheap, the ”non-dev” favourite as we like to call it. You guessed it, we’ve included this hosting provider in our countdown because as the name suggests, they’re cheap!

Although they could do with boosting their uptime, NameCheap does offer a range of decent features and when paid in advance, plans can cost as little as £1.50. But that isn’t the only reason they made our cut.

They have a super friendly user panel, with better support than you’d expect for their cheaper prices – want’s even better is although domains aren’t included with all plans – their fairly cheap to purchase too.

SiteGround take the halfway mark, with what could well be the best support service out there.

They have a great uptime of >99% and offer a wide range of services and features. However, if you’re looking to pay monthly, they might not be the option for you as they require a set-up fee for this.
